REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 19 2012 95
occurred in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. Chief Hurley explained the suspects would
strike late at night or early in the morning. They would climb on the roof of the gas station and cover
the dish with aluminum foil and use a credit card in the gas pump to steal up to as much as 5,000
gallons of gas at one time. While on patrol one morning, Patrolman Gast observed suspicious activity
at a gas station on Western Avenue. He knew the owner and had his home phone number due to
previous problems at the station. He contacted him and called other officers to the scene, while
continuing to update the owner of the activity that was occurring. The officers were able to make an
arrest of some Chicago individuals that were responsible for the multi -State thefts. There being no
further discussion, Mr. Cottrell stated the Board would accept the recommendation of Chief Hurley
for filing.
