alumni-net Erpnit UTILITIES COMMITTEE
The June 27, 1983 meeting of the Utilities Committee was called to
order by its Chairman Councilman Walter Szymkowiak at 5:00 p.m. in the
Council informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Councilmen Beck, Szymkowiak, Serge,
Voorde, Zielinski and Crone, Mr. Caldwell, citizen member, Michael Vance,
John Leszczynski, Mr. Noonan, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Councilman Szymkowiak stated that the purpose of the meeting was to
discuss Bill No. 51-83 which would amend the deductible amount charged
for sewer repairs from $1,000 to $500.
Councilman Szymkowiak suggested that future bills which affect the
Utilities be discussed with him prior to filing.
Councilman Beck, the sponsor -of the bill noted that she was offering
it since she believed the deductible amount was too high. She noted that
Mr. Noonan who resides at 1414 Fox has a sewer line with four breaks and is
unable to pay the $1,000 deductible presently required which would mean
an additional $84.00 per month pursuant to a promissory note.
Mr. Vance was then called upon to give a review of the sewer repair
fund (copy attahced) . He noted that normally a licensed plumber is already
on the job when the City gets involved. There were 42 claims last year
Expenses run approximately $10, 000 per month with an overall deliquency
rate of 8 Questions were raised regarding the interest rate received
on the monies in this dedicated fund, and he noted that all interest should
be deposited into the fund, and he did not know why the investments were
low.
Councilman Crone suggested doing away with the fee altogether, however
Councilman Szymkowisk suggested retaining the . 25 monthly fee. Mr. Caldwell
stated that since the sewer system was aging that the fee should be retained.
Mr. Vance suggested that the semi-annual report be changed to an annual
one, however the Committee believed it should be semi-annual. It was suggeste
that the effective date be July 15,1983.
Following further discussion Bill No 51-83 as amended was recommended
favorably to Council. The motion passed unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Committee the meeting
was adjourned at 5 :45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Walter Szymkowiak, Chairman
4
P IE PSI.. selatPr PUBLISHING CO.
