flnmmtrtrr Erpnrt
tn tjjt ennui= Couz ttl atilt (Mg of f►nutli limb UTILITIES COMMITTEE
•
The March 28 ,'.1983 meeting of the Utilities Committee was called to
order by its Chairman Councilman Walter Szymkowiak at 4 :00 in the Council
informal meeting room.
Persons in attendance included Councilmen Zielinski, Szymkowiak, Beck,
Harris, and Voorde, Citizen Members Ross, Caldwell, and Frank Kuminecz,
Michael Vance, Dick Maginot, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand.
Councilman Szymkowiak noted that the purpose of the meeting was to
discuss two bills namely No. 23-83 and 24-83 which are set for public hearing
at tonight'ss council meeting. '
'Mx. Vance explained that Bill No. 23-83 would approve a contract between
Gates Chevrolet and the Board of Water Works Commissioners in the amount of
$19, 555. 19. This would be for two mobile operator vehicles and an automobile
for the Superintendent of Maintenance. He noted that in January of this year
the Council approved a similar with Basney-Ford, however due to Ford Motor Co.
discontinuance of the Ford Fairmont they were unable to deliver the vehicles.
Gates Chevrolet was the only bidder and it was lower than the first bid in
January. Following discussion Councilman Zielinski made a motion seconded by
. Councilman Beck that the bill be reported favorably to Council. The motion
passed 3-0.
Mr. Vance explained that Bill No. 24-83 would approve a contract between
Carl J. Reinke and Sons, Inc. and the Board of Water Works Commissioners in the
amount of $148,000. 00. - It would be for the construction of a half million gallon
clear well at Edison Park Water Filtration Plant. This was the lowest of
13 bidders. The present capacity is between 90 to 100, 000 gallons. A clear
well is basically a .buffer zone between the plant and distribution. It would
measure 350 feet around. He noted that it would also have a dual capacity,
for it would function as a basketball court in Edison Park. He also noted that
the earth removed would be made into a sledding hill. The construction would
offset the chemicals within a four-five year period. The present balance of
the depreciation fund is $345 ,758. 02 , and if the two bills are passed the
balance would be $177,202. 83. Councilman Szymkowiak discussed the need for
safety equipment for personnel at the Water Filtration Plant; and requested
that a stamp be purchased so that when persons pay their utility bills in
person they can be marked paid with the date. Following further discussion
Councilman Zielinski made a motion seconded by Councilman Beck that the Bill
be reported favorably to Council. The motion passed 3-0. '
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting
was adjourned at 4:25 p.m.
•
•
Respectfully Submitted,
Walter Szymkowiak, Chairman
•wtt •wtt• ottelp. ►wuUMUM•co.
