UTILITIES COMMITTEE The March 14, 1983 meeting of the Utilities Committee was called to order at 4 :00 in the Council informal meeting room by its Chairman, Councilman Walter Szymkowiak. Persons in attendance included Councilmen Zielinski, Szymkowiak, Voorde, Crone, Harris, Taylor, and Beck; John Leszczynski, Michael Vance, Citizen Member Ross Caldwell, Citizen Member Frank Kuminecz, Dick Maginot, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. Councilman Szymkowiak stated that the purpose of the meeting was to review two bills which are set for public hearing this evening. He then called upon Michael Vance to review Bill No. 15-83. Bill 15-83 would approve a contract between HRP Company and the Board of Water Works Commissioners in the amount of $34 , 800. 00. It would be used to relocate the street water mains on Olive Street due to the Olive-Sample overpass. This was the lower of two bids received and it must be completed prior to May 15, 1983. Mr. Vance explained .that the City is not doing it themselves because it involves twenty-four inch water lines and due to several other projects. He noted that there would be notification of persons regarding the temporary interruption of service. Following discussion of the Committee, Councilman Zielinski made a motion seconded by Councilman Taylor that Bill No. 15-83 go to Council favorably. The motion passed 4-0. Councilman Szymkowiak then asked Mr. Vance to review Bill No. 16-83 which would appropriate $52 ,500:00 to the Bureau of Sewers for contractural services, and would decrease the sewage works depreciation fund in this amount. He explained that this money would be used to renovate manholes. He noted that there is an increasing number of manhole collapses due to structural fatigue. This would be contracted out by the City, with all work being done from the inside of the manhole. Councilman Szymkowiak questioned whether the quality of workmanship would be guaranteed, and was informed that a three year warranty would apply. Councilman Crone questioned what the individual cost per manhole would be, and was informed that it would average $600. 00 per manhole. Following further questioning by the Committee Councilman Zielinski made a motion seconded by Councilman Beck that Bill No. 16-83 go to Council favorably. The motion passed 4-0.
