Ulnmmtt tr Rood
010 flit Qlnmutnn elounril of tilt Olitg of frout11 lira: PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE
The June 13th meeting of the Public Safety Committee was called to order
at 5 :45 p.m. by its Chairman Councilman John Harris in the Council informal
meeting room.
•Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Serge, Crone, Voorde, Taylor,
Zielinski, Harris and Szymkowiak, Jim Wensits, Chief Brassel and Kathleen
Cekanski-Farrand.
,Councilman Harris noted that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss
Bill No.40-83 which would appropriate $60,500 from the Emergency Medical
Services Fund for capital equipment and repairs.
)Chief Brassel noted that $46,500 would be used to purchase a new
ambulance for the City. He also indicated that the remaining $14 ,000 would
be used for needed building repairs of various fire stations. Such repairs
would include a new heating system at Station #3 on McKinley, a new boiler
at the Ireland Road Station, and new doors at Fire Station #6.
Chief Brassel also indicated that there would be a balance of . approximately
$4, 000 in this account if this appropriation is approved. $65, 000 is
presently ear-marked for the snorkel repairs.
The Chief noted that the City needs to maintain five (5) aerial ladders
which are manned and in service in order for the City to maintain its class
3 rating for insurance purposes. In 1978 the City was dropped from a middle
3 rating to a low 3 rating and would be close to a 4 if the five aerial ladders
are not properly maintained.
Following much discussion by the Committee, Councilman Taylor made a
motion seconded by Councilman Voorde that Bill No. 40-83 be recommended
favorably to Council. The montion passed unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting
was adjourned at 6 : 00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
John Harris, Chairman
•
POE PRESS .+si . wfuS■IH.CO.
