Page 8. <br /> Personnel and Finance Committee <br /> AUGUST 18, 1982 PERSONNEL AND FINANCE COMMITTEE <br /> Councilman Crone reconvened the meeting at 4:45 p.m. Persons in <br /> attendance included: Councilmen Voorde, McGann, Crone, Szymkowiak, and <br /> Harris ; Sherrie Petz and Kathleen Cekanski-Farran_d. <br /> Councilman Crone reinterated that the purpose of this meeting was to <br /> gather further information for a total and complete review of each individual <br /> budget. <br /> 4:45 - 5 : 15 EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES <br /> Chief Tim Brassel and Rick Switalski reviewed the EMS budget (page 35-36) <br /> requested at $417, 304 representing a 30% increase. It was noted that <br /> there was $77, 340 left in the dedicated fund and $128, 000 left in the bond. <br /> Two pumpers were paid by the bond. Approximately 1, 776 calls were <br /> referred in 1981 for various reasons . <br /> Councilman McGann stated that we should review the rates presently <br /> being charged. Presently Midwest Collection Service, Inc. is doing the <br /> collection working along with David Chapleau for EMS . <br /> 5: 15 - 6: 20 FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> The Committee then reviewed this budget (pages 31-33) for a total cost <br /> of $5, 150, 039 representing an 8% increase. The department is authorized <br /> to have 251 members, but is presently at 256 . The Chief noted that the <br /> average age of a firefighter is 42 years . In light of this concern <br /> the Chief was proposing a $40,000 expenditure for a physical fitness <br /> program which would have a four-phase evaluation. The Committee spent <br /> a considerable amount of time reviewing this proposal, and the Chief gave <br /> a written breakdown of it . Many questions were asked of this and several <br /> other line-items . <br /> Upon a motion being made by John Voorde and being seconded by Lew <br /> McGann the Committee meeting was adjourned at 6 : 20 p.m. <br /> Respectfully Submitted, <br /> Beverly D.
