Clim lltltter rpart <br /> OLDER ADULTS COMMITTEE <br /> Ito the glom= Olounril of OR ftltitg of *ouch limb: <br /> The November 10, 1980, meeting of the Older Adults Committee <br /> was called to order at 6 :15 p.m., by its ' Chairman, Councilman Richard <br /> C. Dombrowski. The meeting was held in the Council meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Beck, Serge, Crone, <br /> and Dombrowski, Chuck Dempsey, Chuck Rhoades, Dan Mohnke, Lehman <br /> Haynes, Floyd Carter, H. J. Noel, City Controller Joseph Kernan; and <br /> Council Attorney, Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Councilman Dombrowski announced that the purpose of the meeting <br /> was to discuss Bill No. 130-80, a Bill which would appropriate <br /> $9,500. 00 from the Community Development Block Grant Fund for the <br /> support of an Older Adult Crime Victim Program, <br /> In reviewing the Bill the committee noted; that the program <br /> is completing its 3rd and final year of funding under LEAA; that over <br /> 3 , 900 older victims were referred to REAL by the Police Department; <br /> that 60 to 67% of the crimes committed against older adults occur in <br /> CD neighborhood strategy areas; and that the $9 ,500 request is 60% <br /> of the total project cost of one year of $15,700. 00. <br /> Councilman Serge stated that he believed it was a good program, <br /> and should be continued. <br /> Councilman Crone questioned where the remaining 40% would come <br /> from. This. question would be referred to Marzy Bauer during the <br /> public hearing. <br /> Mr. Dempsey requested a list of projects and programs which were <br /> serving older adults. Councilman Dombrowski stated he would send out <br /> a letter to that effect. Mr. Noel discussed a recent case, and questioned <br /> the types of procedures used by REAL Services , and LEAA funding. He <br /> stated that he would bring these matters up at the meeting on Friday <br /> with the Older Adults Council, <br /> Following further discussion, Councilman Beck made a motion to <br /> recommend the Bill favorably to Council. . Councilman Crone seconded <br /> the motion. The motion passed, <br /> Councilman Dombrowski noted that Mrs, Balint and Mrs. Grubesich <br /> had telephoned him earlier, and were in favor of the Bill. <br /> There being no further business to come before the committee, <br /> the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. <br /> Respectfully s •mitted, <br /> et. <br /> Richard C.
