The handout highlighted that:
. (1) 9,504 street blocks would be affected
(2) 19, 008 street signs would be required
(3) $630, 985 _was projected as the total cost to implement such
a program
A considerable amount of discussion followed. Councilman Symkowiak
states that although he believed that alternate parking in residential
neighborhoods was desireable, that the costs involved were prohibitive.
Sean Watt suggested that perhaps a ten (10) block area could be targeted
for a 30 tq 60 day period as an experiment. He suggested perhaps in the
Park Avenue area.
Councilman Symkowiak suggested that if proper news media coverage was
given to-the targeted area that the City would be able to try the restricted ,
parking from 7 : 00 a.m. to 5: 00 p.m. He further suggested that interested
members .of the Committee should join him in meeting with the editor of the
Tribune to discuss the possibility of a weekly box- announcing upcoming
public works projects such as the restricted parking. The Committee agreed
that this would be the best route to go in light of the prohibitive costs.
Councilman Symkowiak made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by
Councilman Serge. The meeting was adjourned at 4:55 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Joseph Serge, Chairman
Attachment.
PRIM SSSSS Is PUBLISHING CO.
