Public Works and Property Vacation Committee
The September 27 , 2004 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee was
called to order by its Chairperson Council Member David Varner at 3:30 pm in the Council
Informal Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Dieter, Kelly, Puzzello, Varner, Kuspa,
Coleman and White; City Clerk John Voorde, City Engineer Carl Littrell, Jack Dillon, Ken
Fedder, Phil Facenda, Jr., Gladys Kopola, Bill SchallioL Jack Dillon, Community & Economic
Development Executive Director Sharon Kendall, John Stakowitz and Kathleen
Cekanski-Farrand,Council Attorney.
Dr. Varner noted that a quorum of the Committee does not exist, however the Committee would
meet to receive information.
Dr. Varner called for a presentation on Bill No. 50-04 which is a request to vacate the first alley
north of Jefferson Boulevard between 36th Street to the west and the north/south alley between
Jefferson.Boulevard and Marshall Avenue to the east. Dr. Varner noted that the Board of Public
Safety reviewed the request and sends it to the Council with a favorable recommendation
September 8,2004 Report attached).
John Stakowitz, the petitioner, made the presentation. He noted that it is being proposed
because of the unsafe conditions which currently exist and the ongoing noise problems. Persons
use the area to avoid the light on Jefferson. He noted that he plans to pave the area in question
and that he is aware of the possibility of a cul-de-sac.
City Engineer Carl Littrell spoke in favor of the proposed vacation.
Dr. Varner noted that since a quorum was not present, that it would be reported without
recommendation to the Common Council.
Bill Schalliol of Community and Economic Development then asked that Bill No. 59-04 which
is a vacation request for a portion of the east side of Chapin Street north of Sample Street to
United Drive and approximately 720' of United Drive running east from Chapin Street be
continued until the Council meeting of October 1 lth.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Dr. Varner adjourned the
meeting at 3:39 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member David Varner,Chairperson
Public Works and Property Vacation Committee
KCF:kmf
Attachments
Public Works and Property Vacation Committee---September 27,2004 Page 1
