Eisenhower changed Armistice Day to Veterans
Day and expanded the commemoration to all veterans “in order that a grateful Nation might pay
appropriate homage to veterans of all its wars”; and
Whereas, President Eisenhower’s vision of Veterans Day remains as sacred today as it
was in 1954 to: “let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on
the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us
reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not
have been in vain”; and
Whereas, locally, “Get Wet for a Vet, Inc.” embodies the honor due veterans in its
mission statement: “We work with all of you to benefit the community by helping local Veterans
who have fought so vigorously for our freedom”; and
Whereas, since 2013 “GWAV” has donated tens of thousands of dollars to veteran-
oriented organizations such as: the Miller’s Homeless Veteran Center, the Department of
American Veterans, and CVMA “Vets helping Vets”, St. Joseph County Blue Star Moms,
Michiana “Stop 22”, Marine Riders, St. Joseph County Department of Veterans Affairs
Volunteer Fund, Combat Veterans 14-3 and Army Riders Chapter 118; and
Whereas, GWAV is currently involved in the planning and construction of a “tiny”
house village for local veterans.
Now, Therefore, be it publicly and proudly proclaimed as
follow:
Section I.
