Dieter at 3:55 p.m. in the Council
Informal Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members White, Varner, Kelly, Kirsits, Kuspa,
Dieter, Puzzello, Pfeifer and Coleman; City Controller Frederick B. 011ett III, City Clerk John
Voorde,Public Works Director Gary Gilot,Andy Laurent,Executive Director of the Community
& Economic Development Department Sharon Kendall, Jack Dillon, and Kathleen
Cekanski-Farrand,Council Attorney.
Council Member Dieter noted that the first item on the agenda was Bill No. 53-04 which
would set the annual salaries for the Mayor and the City Clerk for calendar year 2005.
City Controller Frederick B. 011ett III made the presentation. He stated that the Bill
reflects a 4% increase for both positions bringing the Mayor's salary to $90,958 and the City
Clerk's salary to$49,273.
Council Member Kelly stated that we are getting the Mayor's services "pretty cheap".
Mr. 011ett noted that when you compare the Mayor's salary to that of corporate CEO's whose
enterprises are between $160-$200 million, the salary would be $200,000 before benefits.
Council Member Kelly made a motion, seconded by Council Member Puzzello that Bill No.
53-04 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
Under miscellaneous business,Mr. 011ett stated that they had issued an RFP for banking
services and that 1st Source Bank has been selected, with nine(9)banks offering bids.
Council Member Puzzello inquired about the process, noting that when she was last on
the Council that there would be a formal meeting of the Council conducted by the Mayor.
In response to a question from Council Member Pfeifer,Mr. 011ett stated that Fifth Third
Bank is the current bank with 1st Source being the bank the year earlier.
Council Member Coleman noted that he recalled meetings with the Mayor and Council,
and that the banks would be rotated, however he believes that changed when the city combined
with other entities.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member Dieter
adjourned the meeting at 4:03 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member Derek D. Dieter,Chairperson KCF:kmf
Personnel and Finance Committee Attachments
Personnel and Finance Committee Meeting of October 11, 2004 Page 1
