2004 ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
OF THE
SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL
Pursuant to § 2-10 of the South Bend Municipal Code, the following 2004 Annual
Report of the Information and Technology Committee is filed which highlights activities
of this calendar year.
Duties: The Information and Technology Committee is charged with "overseeing the
various activities of the City's information technologies so that all computer
systems, websites, and related technologies are maintained and upgraded so as to
remain competitive and up-to-date with current industry standards"pursuant to § 2-
10 (i) 6) of the South Bend Municipal Code (Emphasis added).
Members: There are four (4) Council Members on this Committee, namely: Council
Member Pfeifer who served as Vice-Chairperson, Council Member Dieter, Council
Member Kelly, and myself as Chairperson.
Meetings: This year the Information and Technology Committee held six (6)
Committee meetings which were held on:
February 23,2004 April 26, 2004 July 12,2004
April 12, 2004 June 28,2004 October 20, 2004
Highlighted Activities: One of the primary activities of the Information and
Technology Committee was to review with the City Administration the staffing status;
hardware upgrades; priority and target timeliness;the software upgrades; and the website
redevelopment project. A multi-page handout discussing each of these items is on file in
the Office of the City Clerk.
The Committee received a power-point presentation from City Controller Frederick B.
011ett, III; the Director of Information Technologies Bob Allen; and PC Specialist Brent
Cummins in the Fall which focused on recommendation received from Crowe Chizek and
Company, LLC. Their recommendation addressed the proposed site map for the
Common Council website and the material related to the overall upgrade to the City of
South Bend's official website. Again, all of this information is available for public
inspection in the Office of the City Clerk.
The Information and Technology Committee is awaiting a further update on the
Council's website and the City's website, which had been projected by the
Administration to be available by the end of the 2004 calendar year.
Like some of the other Standing Committees, an ongoing challenge of the Information
and Technology Committee is to attract citizen members who have the interest and the
time to serve on this Committee.
