SECTION 2 – STREETS, WALKWAYS & PATHS <br />14 <br />Type II six (6) inches of the subgrade excavated and replaced with coarse aggregate No. 53. <br />Type III six (6) inches of soil compacted to the density and moisture requirements. <br />Other subgrade treatment types may be acceptable if recommended in a geotechnical evaluation <br />and approved by the City Engineering Department. <br />2-4 ASPHALT PAVEMENTS <br />2-4.1 GENERAL <br />Asphalt Pavements shall comply with the requirements of Section 400 of the INDOT Standard <br />Specifications, with the following exceptions: <br />1.All references to Mixture Adjustment Factor (MAF) shall be deleted. <br />2.Delete all 401 sections except 401.04, 401.05, and 401.08. <br />3.PG binder used in surface mixtures Type A, B, and C shall be PG 70-22P. <br />4.PG binder used in surface mixture Type D shall be 76-22P. <br />5.Maximum binder replacement for all intermediate and base mixtures shall be twenty-five <br />percent (25%). <br />6.Only limestone will be allowed for use as the coarse aggregate. <br />No recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) or reclaimed asphalt shingles (RAS) will not be allowed in <br />the HMA surface mixture. The binder in the HMA surface mix shall be PG 70-22. <br />Tack coat is required between all HMA courses and shall comply with Section 406 of the INDOT <br />Standard Specifications. <br />2-4.2 HOT MIX ASPHALT PAVEMENT <br />2-4.2 (a) GENERAL <br />HMA pavement shall comply with Section 402 as defined in the City of South Bend Prevailing <br />Specifications. An INDOT-approved Design Mix Formula shall be used and provided to the City <br />for approval at least five (5) working days prior to any mix placed. Placement of asphalt will not <br />be allowed to proceed without an approved job mix formula (JMF) and the Division of Engineering <br />must be notified at two working days (Mon.-Fri.) prior to placing any asphalt. Asphalt placed <br />without notification will be subject to removal. <br />2-4.2 (b) TESTING AND INSPECTION <br />Daily productions of less than 300 tons/day require a Type D certification. <br />Daily HMA productions exceeding 300 tons/day require testing for bitumen content in accordance <br />with ITM 586 or ITM 571, and for aggregate gradation in accordance with AASHTO T 209. <br />Additional tests are required when daily production exceeds 800 tons and every 800 tons thereafter. <br />Acceptable tolerances from the JMF are per Table 2-4.2(1).
