Health sod Public Safety Committee <br /> Committee Report <br /> The May 24,2004 meeting of the Health and Public Safety Committee was called to <br /> order by its Chairperson,Council Member Ann Puzzello at 4:40 p.m. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Dieter,White,Kelly,Puzzello,Varner, <br /> Kuspa,Coleman,Pfeifer and Kirsits;Mayor Stephen Luecke, City Attorney Charles Leone, <br /> Police Chief Thomas Fautz, City Clerk John Voorde,City Controller Rick 011ett,members of <br /> the South Bend Fire Department,Ken Marks,Rita Kopola, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, <br /> Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Puzzello noted that the committee meeting had been called to hear an <br /> update from Police Chief Thomas Fautz on various special projects in the police department. <br /> Police Chief Thomas Fautz two(2)handouts to the Committee, one entitled"South <br /> Bend Police Cadet Program"and the other entitled"South Bend Police Department Public <br /> Information/Public Relations"(copies attached). He noted that both of these programs would <br /> help in regard to recruitment. John Williams the Community Outreach Coordinator is also hard <br /> at work building partnerships. He added that on June 5th there will be a graffiti removal blitz on <br /> the west side beginning at 9:30 am. Students will operate out of Washington High School and <br /> concentrate in the"weed&seed"areas. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer noted that the recent Town Hall meeting on minority <br /> recruitment was excellent. <br /> Under miscellaneous business,Ken Marks,President of the South Bend Firefighters <br /> Association,IAFF Local# 362,presented a one-page handout to the Committee setting forth the <br /> names of the individuals who will be members of the Firefighter Negotiating Team(copy <br /> attached). He noted that this information was not forwarded only to the Mayor and that he <br /> wanted the entire Council to also have the information. <br /> There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member <br /> Puzzello adjourned the meeting at 4:47 p.m. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Council Member Ann Puzzello, Chairperson <br /> Health and Public Safety Committee <br /> KCF:kmf <br /> Attachments <br />
