MR. LARRY FISHER: I live at 59255 Locust Road. I'm directly opposite 20 across the street from the
property they're talking about. My only questions are, what would the size of the parking area be? Are they
going to be extensive like light poles and things like that? I believe they said it was open from 8 to 5 so
probably that would mean, and those would be my questions.
MR. URBANSKI: Okay sir and they will answer those questions. Anyone else?
MS. ANNIE GILILGAN: 3434 S. Twyckenham Drive, South Bend, Indiana. I purchased the property which
would be southeast of 3733. I think it's in the 3800 block back in 1989 or 1990. My initial intention was
residential, however, at that time the property was it was conveyed to me that we were intending to preserve
wetlands in the area. Now WJC Holdings, I believe, a company I, did have some correspondence with about
four years ago and I understood then that they're intention, and they're out of Grand Rapids possibly, that their
intention was to build directly east of, behind my property some sort of, I'm not sure what they had in mind,
commercial building. Yesterday I kind of visited the man adjacent or next door to me the one that has the two
ponds, I'm just directly north of him and my land is just vacant land, but he told me the intentions of the
Potawatomi were to build retirement homes to the west of my property directly across the street on Locust
Road. And I was under the assumption that was wetlands as well. He also told me that there was a
maintenance man that was already in place at another residential home along Locust Road. These are kind of
all the questions I have. And I have no objections to what they want to do but I would like some more
clarification.
MR. URBANSKI: Anyone else wishing to speak in opposition to? Seeing none the public portion is now
closed.
MR. FEDDER: Mr. Chairman would you at least acknowledge to the rest of the Board a letter that you got.
MR. URBANSKI: Yes. We received a letter, for the record, from Dave Thomas, dated November 7th,to the
Area Board of Zoning Appeals, please be advised that I strongly support the zoning request of the Pokagon
Band of the Potawatomi Indians, who are the only federally recognized Native American Tribe in the State of
Indiana. The proposal to relocate, build, and offer an Indian government affairs facility here in St.Joe County
will be an asset to better serve the Indian people who live here in St.Joe County and so on... (COMPLETE
LETTER IN FILE)
MR. VELLEMAN: That's commissioner Dave Thomas?
MR. HAWLEY: That's Dave Thomas the commissioner.
MR. URBANSKI: That's Dave Thomas the commissioner, prior and future.
REBUTTAL:
32
