CConmzitt S? iort: <br /> C On�l»1inL an�f • <br /> � 0127 � �ESJtr�l N�rE r �m-'i'sf'�'sE <br /> The May 10,2004 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee was <br /> called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly at 3:35 in the Council Informal <br /> Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Dieter,Pfeifer,Kelly,Pnzzello, Varner, <br /> Kuspa, Coleman,Kirsits and White; Mayor Stephen J. Luecke, City Clerk John Voorde,Public <br /> Works Director Gary Gilot, Community and Economic Development Director Sharon Kendall, <br /> Bernie Feeney, George Adler, , Jeff Myers,Pam Myers,Marco Mariani,Gladys Kopola, Wayne <br /> Curry,Linda Hopkins,Arnold Sallie,Terry Bland of the,Suufk Alextb`Cribunt,and Kathleen <br /> Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 04-46 <br /> which is a proposed resolution which would adopt a vision and guiding principles developed by <br /> the community for a comprehensive planning process called"City Plan". <br /> Mayor Luecke made the presentation. He began by introducing the new Executive Director of <br /> Community and Economic Development, Sharon Kendall. <br /> Mayor Luecke stated that City Plan has two(2)basic elements: a community vision and its <br /> guiding principles. Almost 1,000 people took part in the thirty(30)community meetings held <br /> throughout the city. He noted that the 50-member Civic Alliance also met in a 1/2 day retreat. <br /> Phase II will have a series of small group meetings which will focus on twelve(12)primary <br /> areas of discussion. <br /> Wayne Curry,Economic Development/Conummity Development Chairperson spoke in favor of <br /> the proposed resolution, noting the public participation varied from place to place but overall the <br /> people were enthusiastic. He further noted that the proposed resolution calls for flexibility so <br /> that the process may be changed as conditions and needs warrant. <br /> Arnold Sallie, Transportation and.Infrastructure Chairperson spoke in favor of the proposed <br /> resolution,noting that it has been an invigorating process. <br /> Linda Hopkins,Parks,Health and Safety Chairperson also spoke in favor of the proposed <br /> resolution. <br /> Dr. Varner noted that he anticipates that there will be additional documents for the Council to <br /> review, and inquired as to what the next steps would be. <br /> Larry Magliozzi stated that the process of identifying stakeholders will take place next with <br /> discussions on overcoming obstacles and barriers and building on the strengths of the <br /> community. Discussions began last month and will continue until the end of September with a <br /> report back to the Council at that time. He further noted that the beginning process of drafting a <br /> comprehensive plan will begin in early 2005. <br />
