- <br /> The South Bend Common Council's Standing Committee Report from the <br /> Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> The July 26,2004 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly at 4:08 p.m., in the <br /> Council Informal Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Dieter,Pfeifer,Kelly,Puzzello, <br /> Varner, Kuspa, Coleman,Kirsits, and White; City Clerk John Voorde,Pamela C. Meyer, Gladys <br /> Kopola, Terry Bland of the South Bend Tribune,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand,Council <br /> Attorney. <br /> Council Member Kelly called for a presentation on Bill No. 39-04 which would <br /> appropriate $198,345 within the Community and Economic Development Fund# 212 for <br /> distribution pursuant to the US Department of Justice's Weed and Seed Grant Program. <br /> Pamela C. Meyer,Director of Community Development made the presentation. She <br /> noted that this ordinance was discussed at the July 12th Committee meeting. At that time she <br /> believed that the ordinance included an incorrect amount and therefore requested a continuance <br /> until today. Ms. Meyer stated that she has double-checked the document and the amount set <br /> forth in the ordinance is correct. She further added that the funds would be used for <br /> programming related to the Weed& Seed areas of the city addressing law enforcement, <br /> community policing and safe havens. She presented a one-page handout setting forth the <br /> budgeted amounts(copy attached). <br /> Council Member Coleman made a motion, seconded o ded by Council Member Kuspa that Bill <br /> No. 39-04 be recommended favorably to Council.
