legal description <br /> Lot 2 Fassnachts Addition <br /> Key Number 8-01-18-54-2300 <br /> historical notes <br /> This home is located on a section of the original Chapin Estate. In 1891 , Christopher <br /> Fassnacht sold the home and this lot, Bank Out Lot 116, to F.J. Lewis Meyer and wife <br /> for $2600. There were restrictive covenants placed upon the property stating that no <br /> home should be constucted of less than $3000 in value, and it must be built within one <br /> year of the date of the sale. The first Listing for 417 West Navarre Street appears in <br /> 1891 , as the corner of West Navarre Street and Portage Avenue. <br /> F.J. Lewis Meyer was a native of Ontario,Canada born on November 2, 1860. His father <br /> was Rev. R. F. Meyer, a leading member of the Evangelical Association. In 1874, the <br /> Meyer family moved to Michigan, and at age sixteen he taught public schools in Michigan. <br /> Mr. Meyer came to South Bend in 1879. He taught public schools in South Bend, and was <br /> principal of Lafayette School from 1884-1887. He attended law school at Northwestern <br /> University and upon being admitted to the bar, returned to South Bend. He was a highly <br /> esteemed local attorney. He served as the attorney for the Indiana, Illinois, Iowa <br /> Railway,. General Counsel for the Buff and Blue Oolitic Stone Company,and the Crafton <br /> Stone Company.
