tommittu impart
i>r ar an Vraptrty Vacation Qammttt*
The January 27, 2003 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee was called to
order by its Chairperson, Council Member David Varner at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Informal
Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Varner, Aranowski, Pfeifer, Kelly, Kirsits,
Coleman, Kuspa and White; Community & Economic Development Director Jon Hunt, Deputy
City Attorney Thomas Bodnar, Bill Shalliol, Terry Bland of the giOUth 3iC1121 gt't'Une and
Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand,Council Attorney.
Council Member Varner noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No.101-02
which was continued at the request of the Petitioner at the last Committee meeting. Dr. Varner
noted that a 2nd Substitute Bill No. 101-02 has been filed with the City Clerk's office which
represents the most recent version of this bill on the request to vacate a portion of three(3) alleys in
the downtown area.
Dr. Varner also noted that the Board of Public Works sent a favorable recommendation as evidence
by their report of January 22,2003 (copy attached).
Mr. Bill Shalliol of the Community and Economic Development Department made the presentation.
He thanked the Council Attorney for overseeing that the 2nd Substitute Bill addressed all issues
raised by the Council. He noted that alleys labeled A and B would be closed upon the ordinance
being passed and legally advertised with that date projected to be March 10th. Alley C would be
vacated like alleys A and B, however it would not be closed until a resolution is adopted by the
Council consistent with the building permit being pulled for this area.
Following discussion, Council Member Aranowski made a motion, seconded by Council Member
Kirsits that 2nd Substitute Bill No. 101-02 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion
passed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member Varner adjourned
the meeting at 4:35 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member David Varner, Chairperson
Public Works and Property Vacation Committee
KCF:kmf
Attachments
