t i
Parks,Recreation,Cultural Arts and Entertainment Committee
July 17, 2003
Page 2
Mr. St. Clair noted that to date there have been 450,000 hits on the Parks website.
Council Member Coleman then directed discussion with regard to the best of the three(3) possible
funding alternatives.
Council Member Aranowski noted that alternative#3 appears to be the"most feasible".
Council Member Coleman stated that he would like to meet with the Mayor and the City Controller,
but would like to do so with a sense of where the Committee stood.
Council Member Kelly noted that the Committee should not kid themselves and that discussions
must begin with the Mayor.
Following discussion, Council Member Aranowski made a motion, seconded by Council Member
Kuspa that the Chairperson of the Parks, Recreation, Cultural Arts and Entertainment Committee
would be authorized to meet with the City Administration and in particular the Mayor and City
Controller to discuss the feasibility of Option#3 Funding Alternative [Fund 201, COIT, 10% fee
increases, and other sources] and then report back to the Committee. The motion passed.
Council Member Kelly noted that he received a call from the owner of Barnaby's who voiced
concern about the need to move the Summer in the City festival from this year's location.
Mr. St. Clair noted that they have purchased more food items for the staff from Barnaby's. He
also suggested that there be "beefed up security" at next year's festival and that they are looking
into using Indiana State Police, noting that Fort Wayne utilizes state police for some of their
activities.
Council Member Kuspa inquired about locations for relocating the greenhouse. Mr. St. Clair
stated that they are looking into keeping it where it is or elsewhere and that it would need a lot of
discussion.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member Coleman
adjourned the meeting at 4:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member Sean Coleman, Chairperson
Parks,Recreation, Cultural Arts and Entertainment Committee
KCF:kmf
Attachments
