tommittu Atgport <br /> Committe of t t Mott <br /> The May 13, 2002, meeting of the of the Committee of the Whole of the South Bend Common <br /> Council was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Karl King at 3:41 p.m. in the <br /> Council Informal Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Aranowski, Pfeifer, King, Varner, White, <br /> Kirsits and Coleman; Department of Community and Economic Development Director Jon Hunt, <br /> Public Works Director Gary Gilot, TRANSPO Board Members John Leszczynski, Emil "Lucky" <br /> Reznik, Jeannette Molnar, and Rhonda Bradshaw; Citizen Member Khadihah Muhammad, Terry <br /> Bland of the'o11t j U rih111XU,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Mr. Leszczynski, a member of the TRANSPO Board, stated that annually the members of the <br /> board like to provide an update to the Council since they have four(4) appointments to the Board. <br /> Jeannette Molnar, a member of the TRANSPO Board, then provided a TRANSPO Rider's Guide <br /> to the Council (copy attached) and a copy of the document entitled `TRANSPO-The Year in <br /> Review 2001"(copy attached). <br /> The TRANSPO Board Members then highlighted portions of the handouts.TRANSPO Board <br /> Member Rhonda Bradshaw noted that she is on the Operations Committee and she then reviewed <br /> information on ridership. <br /> In response to questions raised by Council Member Pfeifer it was rioted that there are seventeen <br /> (17) fixed routes. There are 52 buses on these routes, there are 4 Bolt buses and 8 <br /> paratransportion vehicles. It was also noted that there are(3) bi-lingual bus drivers. <br /> TRANSPO Board Member Emil "Lucky"Reznik stated that ridership is often not heard from with <br /> regard to their needs. As a result the Board review rider demographics. The elderly and disabled <br /> are chard$ .35. There are many transit issues and the Board reviews a"wish list"to better service <br /> its customers. Mr. Reznik noted that in particular the TRANSPO Board needs to address the needs <br /> of Hispanics. He noted that currently all of their information is printed in English, however they <br /> are looking for new shareholders. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer suggested that the Board review having the busses to service the Karl <br /> King Towers turn into the driveway by the Towers. She noted that she has raised this safety <br /> concern in the past. It was noted that the manager of operations should look into this request.
