Residential Neighborhoods Committee <br /> October 14, 2002 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Council President Kelly inquired about the cost of the project. <br /> Mr. Leszczynski stated that the cost for the various proposals range from $1 million to $2.7 <br /> million, with the two other proposals costed at$1.3 and$1.7. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer stated that the Orange/Washington intersection is a terrible intersection. <br /> She noted that Proposals#2 and#3 were not liked by the neighbors at all. Proposal # 1 was the <br /> preferred choice of the residents. <br /> Mr. Leszczynski stated that the Troyer Group was asked to provide all possible alternatives, <br /> however costs for the various alternatives have made some of them cost prohibitive. Ongoing <br /> problems with how South Shore,Amtrak and Honeywell are also involved. <br /> Mr. Littrell noted that Amtrak will not be moving its location in the near future. <br /> Dr. Varner inquired whether Bosch as given the City of South Bend a commitment to expand. <br /> Bob Case stated that a two-year commitment to stay has been give to the City. A $4 million loan <br /> has been given with the repayment amount being based on the amount of conditions being met. <br /> They have brought in several new people and are currently razing buildings and reclaiming <br /> property for expansion. They are considering connecting their two(2) main buildings. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer inquired where the new employees live. <br /> Jon Hunt stated that approximately 1/3 of the employees live in the City of South Bend. His <br /> department is currently developing performance and accountability criteria so that such information . <br /> may be tracked. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer stated that she would like more specific information on where these <br /> employees live. <br /> Council Member Kuspa inquired about the railroad crossing. Mr. Leszczynski stated that they <br /> hope to eliminate some of the backlog. He noted that Betrand would not have access to Meade. <br /> He also noted that there would be 5' sidewalks and 8' grassy areas in the design. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer inquired whether any homes would be affected. Mr. Lesczynski stated <br /> that one (1) home may possible be purchased, with this being determined based on the radius and <br /> the speed controls necessary. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer stated that the City should try to avoid dividing up a neighborhood since <br /> such action would further cripple it. She stated that Proposal # 4 is respectful of the <br /> neighborhood. <br /> Council Member Kirsits inquired about future grade separations. Mr. Littrell stated that he hoped it <br /> would take place in his lifetime and would be in the area of Sheridan to Olive. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer thanked everyone for their input and attendance. <br />
