The January 28, 2002 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee was <br /> called to order by its Chairperson Council Member Karl King at 4:13 p.m. in the Council Informal <br /> Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Varner, White, Kirsits, Aranowski, King, <br /> Ujdak, and Kelly; George Adler, Terry Bland of the ikintb WO ibUttt and Kathy <br /> Cekanski Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member King noted that the committee currently does not have a quorum therefore the <br /> Committee will hear items for informational purposes. Shortly thereafter, Council Member <br /> Coleman joined the meeting,thereby providing a quorum. <br /> Council Member King then called for a presentation on Bill No. 7-02 which would appropriate$ <br /> 6,900 from the Economic Development Fund(#212) to provide lead-safe work practices training. <br /> Mr. George Adler of Community and Economic Development made the presentation. He noted <br /> that effective January 10, 2002, new HUD regulations took effect requiring the training of <br /> contractors and landlords in lead-safe work practices. As the project manager for this activity, the <br /> funds would be used to train approximately ninety (90) contractors and landlords who receive <br /> federal funds to either rehabilitate housing or operate and maintain rental properties. <br /> Council Member King inquired what percentage of the costs the funds would cover. <br /> Mr. Adler stated that the city would be acting as a pass thru agency with no substantial expenses <br /> being incurred for the training. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Kirsits made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> Varner,that Bill No. 7-02 be recommended favorably to Council.
