___ <br />3 8'S 3 -~ 8' <br />- RESOLUTION NO. <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY <br />COMMENDING TANIA L. HARIYIAN OF THE WARREN PRIMARY CENTER FOR BEING SELECTED AS <br />THE 2008 TEACHER OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH BEND CONIM-UNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION <br />"~~~~, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, recognizes that there are over 60,000' <br />persons teaching in the 294 public school corporations and state-accredited non-public schools throughout the <br />State of Indiana; and <br />"~~aQ, the Common Council acknowledges that on April 1 S, 2008 the South Bend Community <br />School Corporation honored thirty-two (32) teachers who serve in our primary centers, intermediate centers <br />and high schools for their teaching skills and dedication to education excellence; and <br />~!'!'~P,aay the South Bend Common Council is especially proud to honor Tania L. Harman, for being <br />selected as the 2008 Teacher of the Year by the South Bend Community School Corporation, marking the 29th <br />year of this special recognition and making Tania L. Harman eligible to become Indiana's Teacher of the <br />Year; and <br />"fib, Tania L. Harman is a bilingual grade one and two teacher at Warren Primary Center; is in <br />her 20th year of teaching in the South Bend Community School Corporation, having previously taught at <br />Kennedy, Monroe, Lafayette and Wilson before coming to Warren Primary Center; and <br />"~~, the South Bend Common Council believes that Tania L. Harman represents the very best of <br />the education profession as exemplified by her caring and sensitive attitude, her sincere dedication, her <br />exceptional teaching talents, and her enthusiastic teaching methods to inspire young minds, which are <br />exemplified by her very own words: <br />"Students are more successful when there is a partnership among the students, families, and teachers. The students and I are <br />working together daily, but we also need the parents' support and involvement. Very few of the parents I work with speak English, so <br />I seek out ways to make them feel comfortable in the school, and to help them to be of assistance to their children....Parents' <br />perception of the schools and of this country is enhanced because they know that they are important to me, so this makes them more <br />eager to be involved....Teaching is a privilege that enables me to passionately inspire students, colleagues, parents, and me -What <br />greater reward can there be than this....I expect EVERY student in my class to meet and exceed grade level expectations. <br />C~/1~o,w; ~~~, ~ rtxeaa~iuec~; by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council <br />hereby publicly commends and congratulates Tania L. Harman, a bilingual grade one and two teacher at <br />Warren Primary Center for being named the 2008 Teacher of the Year by the South Bend Community School <br />Corporation, which is the highest of all teaching honors in our community. <br />Section II The Council wishes Tania L.
