The Contractor shall preserve and protect all surrounding property, structures, tenants, visitors and <br />their property from damage caused by the Contractor’s operations. <br /> <br /> <br />XVIII. CRACK SEALING AND FILLING <br /> <br />A. Prevailing Specifications: 2020, INDOT Standard Specifications Section 408, 902, 906 <br />B. Additions: <br /> <br />1. Transverse reflective cracks spanning full lane width shall be sealed. All other cracks shall be filled. <br />2. Sealing and filling operations shall not be conducted on a wet surface or when the ambient <br />temperature is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, or when other unsuitable conditions exist, unless <br />approved by the Engineer. <br />3. Before sealing or filling, cracks shall be cleaned by blowing with compressed air. Airflow shall have <br />a minimum pressure of 100 psi and maximum pressure of 150 psi. <br />4. Cracks shall be free of dirt, debris, dust, and moisture before sealing or filling. <br />5. The Contractor may use a hot air lance to clean and dry wet cracks before sealant application in <br />order to continue working in wet conditions. <br />6. Crack Sealing: <br />a. Work shall not be performed when ambient temperature is below 40°F. <br />b. ASTM D 6990 Type II sealant shall be used for sealing cracks. <br />c. Cracks shall be sealed with hot poured joint sealant to within 1/4 in. below the surface in <br />accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. <br />7. Crack Filling <br />a. Cracks shall be filled completely and flush or overbanded with AE-90S. Overbands must not <br />exceed ¼ in. in thickness or 5 in. in width. <br />8. All excess asphalt material shall be removed from the pavement. <br />9. Asphalt materials shall not be applied in such a way that existing pavement markings are covered. <br />10. Sealants and fillings shall cure for one hour before street is opened to traffic or fine aggregate must <br />be applied to cover filled cracks to minimize tracking. Any excess cover material shall be removed <br />from pavement within 24 hours when directed. <br />11. Measurement and Payment: <br />a.
