Council Member Kirsits noted that the fire protection fee increase is good, seeing it as a fairness
issue.
Mr. Skomp noted that suburban rates of 20% more will remain the same. He noted that all
proposed rates must be"cost justified".
Mr. Gilot added that Elkhart may use a compact fee which is higher than the 20%.
In response to a question from Council Member Dieter, it was noted that the average increase in
the city will be$2.50 per month.
Council Member Kuspa suggested that there should be a separate billing just for water, since
there are so many other charges included on the utility bills.
Council Member Kuspa then made a motion, seconded by Council Member Kirsits that Bill
No.88-04 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member Kirsits
adjourned the meeting at 5:58 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Council Member Al"Buddy"Kirsits, Chairperson
Utilities Committee
f Er
KCF:kmf
Attachments
Utilities Committee of the 2005 South Bend Common Council -page 2-
