William <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />Local Landmark <br />Proposal <br />The owner proposes to replace and repair clapboard siding, repair front <br />porch, replace bushes at front facade with flower beds, replace planter <br />about front door, and erect a privacy fence around the south and west yards. <br />Standards <br />II. Treatment - Landscaping <br />Treatment shall be defined as any change of surface materials that <br />will not alter the style or original form. Such improvements which <br />include . . . landscaping lawns involve a change that can potentially <br />enhance or detract from the character of the landmark . . . review <br />the proposed treatment for character and style consistency with the <br />original . . . . <br />Recommendation <br />The clapboard siding and front porch repair were approved by staff. The <br />remaining item is the privacy fence around the south and west yards. <br />The owner is submitting estimates for stockade type fencing and for dog-ear <br />picket fencing. Stockade fencing is not an appropriate design type for this <br />early federal house. Staff recommends approval for the dog-ear picket fence, <br />which should be painted. <br />
