Part 2 <br />The owner has implied his concern about the historic setting by locating <br />the proposed garage as far away as possible from the schoolhouse. Thus <br />mitigating the effect of new construction in the historic setting. The <br />use of wood material is more appropriate material than the use of metal. <br />The design of the new structure should still relate somewhat to the <br />overall characteristics of the schoolhouse such as massing, roof slope, <br />coloring, etc. Secondly, the retention of existing landscaping elements <br />and possibly augmented by additional screening would lessen the impact <br />of the new QaraQe. <br />Staff recommends that the new garage be approved with the condition that <br />the original landscaping is retained (if practical) or appropriately <br />augmented to screen the new building. The staff urges the owner to <br />consider using the design principals as described above. <br />blp <br />
