LaSalle

Hey guys,

Thanks for your response. I’m going to have to try again on the subject of replacing the columns. From what
Mac (and his colleagues) are seeing, they're estimating these columns to have been replaced some time in the
1980s. They're not the original columns to the house. Since a previous owner cut into them (which they
shouldn't have done) and they are now rotting, It would be significantly more expensive and time consuming to
repair them. Also, since we're able to source exact replicas, the final look will be identical.

We're really hoping we're able to replace these. The spindle quote came in $3,500.00 above our initial estimate
and these rising costs (plus materials costs) and time delays are worrisome.

Thanks for listening,

Sarah

On Thu, Oct 29, 2020 at 1:03 PM Ross Van Overberghe <rvoverber@southbendin.gov> wrote:
Sarah,

I concur with Adam, there are many products available to stabilize rotted areas of wood. Also, Don Dietz
restored the columns on his house at the corner of Eddy and Jefferson and used a product to stabilize the
rotted bottoms with great success. His columns are also load bearing.

Reach out to Don to get his take on the product he used.

Ross
