REGULAR MEETING APRIL 28, 2008

“Students are more successful when there is a partnership among the students,
families, and teachers. The students and I are working together daily, but we also need
the parents’ support and involvement. Very few of the parents I work with speak
English, so I seek out ways to make them feel comfortable in the school, and to help them
to be of assistance to their children….Parents’ perception of the schools and of this
country is enhanced because they know that they are important to me, so this makes them
more eager to be involved….Teaching is a privilege that enables me to passionately
inspire students, colleagues, parents, and me – What greater reward can there be than
this….I expect EVERY student in my class to meet and exceed grade level expectations.

Now, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South
Bend, Indiana, as follows:

Section I.
