Mathews Director Building Commissioner July 14 , 1989 Mrs. Ann Puzzello, President South Bend Common Council 4th Floor, County-City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Re : Amendments to Building Code Dear Ann: The Electrical Examining Board and the Heating , Air Con- ditioning and Ventilating Board administer examinations to applicants who apply for electrical licenses or mechanical licenses from the City of South Bend. These exams are held twice a year. The current ordinance provides that the fee for each examination shall be twenty dollars ($20 . 00) for a regular examination or fifty dollars ($50 . 00) for a specially scheduled examination. Each Board has prepared its own examination to be given and the fees listed in the ordinance were sufficient to cover the costs of administering the examinations . We can obtain a national examination, which would be more uniform, to be administered to applicants . The cost per exam is thirty-five dollars ($35. 00) . It is , therefore , the request of the Building Commissioner and both Boards that the ordinance be amended to increase the fees to be charged to forty dollars ( $40 . 00) for each regular examination and seventy-five dollars ($75 . 00) for each specially scheduled examination.
