GIBNEY <br />EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR <br />The attached ordinance will appropriate monies from Fund 410 for the purpose of <br />supporting the City's partnership with the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County <br />in two ways: the Potawatomi Park "Fun for All" project and the Aging in Place Home <br />Modification Project. <br />The Park prof ect represents a partnership among the City through its Parks & Recreation <br />and Community & Economic Development departments, the Rotary Club of South Bend <br />and The Troyer Group. The recreational project transforms components of the heavily <br />utilized Potawatomi Park complex making it accessible to people of all abilities. A <br />successful Kellogg Foundation grant of over $400,000, plus contributions from an <br />anonymous donor and the Community Foundation join with the City's $122,000 to meet <br />the grant's match requirements. Additional private dollars are being invested for <br />improvements to the Park outside of this grant. <br />The Aging in Place Home Modification Project began in July of 2007 with the Milton <br />Funds for Senior Housing at the Community Foundation and Wells Fargo, each <br />contributing $333,333 for a total of $666,666. Through the expertise of REAL Services <br />Weatherization Department and Aging Services, the program allows activities that <br />include modifications to make a home barrier free and safe. The program targets low <br />income seniors in South Bend, with a special focus on African Americans, and an intent <br />to assist these citizens to remain in their home as long as possible. The program goal is <br />to modify 100 homes at an average cost of $10,000 per home. To date sixty-four (64) <br />homes have been assisted.
