( 22. 5) ( 50) Floodplain means the area adjoining a river or <br /> stream which has been or which may hereafter be flooded, so designated <br /> by the Federal Insurance Administration on the Flood Insurance Rate <br /> Maps, Flood Boundary and Flood Maps and Flood Insurance Study dated <br /> February 17 , 1988, along with any subsequent revisions hereby adopted <br /> by reference. <br /> 422:6}( 51) Floodproofed building means a commercial or <br /> industrial building designed to maintain a dry perimeter. All such <br /> floodproofing shall be adequate to withstand the flood depths, <br /> pressures, velocities, impact and uplift forces and other factors <br /> associated with a regulatory flood. <br /> Ef77}( 52.) Floodproofing means a combination of structural <br /> and nonstructural additions, changes or adjustments to properties and <br /> structures which maintain a dry interior and eliminate flood damage to <br /> lands, water and sanitary facilities, and contents of buildings. <br /> 42278 4(53) Floodway means the channel of a river or stream <br /> and those portions of the floodplain which are reasonably required to <br /> efficiently carry or discharge the floodwater of the river or stream, <br /> so designated in the "Flood Insurance Study for the City of South Bend, <br /> Indiana," dated February 1, 1978, prepared by the Federal Insurance <br /> Administration. <br /> 42279)-( 54) Floodway fringe means that portion of a flood <br /> hazard area outside the limits of the floodway, so designated in the <br /> "Flood Insurance Study for the City of South Bend, Indiana," dated <br /> February 1, 1978, prepared by the Federal Insurance Administration. <br /> f23}(55) Floor area means the floor area of a building and <br /> shall be taken-te calculated as the sum of the gross areas of the <br /> several floors of the building, measured from the exterior faces of <br /> exterior walls or from the center line of common walls. Floor area <br /> shall include floor openings for stair wells, elevator shafts and <br /> duct-work, floor space used for mechanical equipment, open or enclosed, <br /> penthouses, attic space having headroom of seven (7) feet, ten (10) <br /> inches or more, interior balconies, mezzanines and enclosed porches, <br />
