• <br /> (f) The above terms shall be subject to the approval by the Board of Public <br /> Safety. <br /> SECTION VII. RETIREMENT SICK-DAY BUY-BACK. <br /> (a) Officers and Sworn Members of the South Bend Fire Department hired <br /> before December 31, 1986, may accumulate within a sick-day bank a maximum of <br /> nine hundred and twelve (912) hours for twenty-four (24) hour personnel, and eight <br /> hundred (800) hours for eight (8) hour personnel; both of which shall be considered <br /> a full bank for purposes of the City's Retirement Sick-Day Buy-Back Program for the <br /> South Bend Fire Department. <br /> (b) Officers and Sworn Members of the South Bend Fire Department hired <br /> after December 31, 1986, may accumulate within a sick-day bank a maximum of five <br /> hundred seventy-six (576) hours. <br /> (c) Upon a minimum of fourteen (14) days notice prior to retirement, any <br /> Officer or Sworn Member of the South Bend Fire Department may sell back to the <br /> City the number of sick days which he or she has accumulated in his or her sick <br /> bank. The rate of reimbursement shall be one-half (1/2) of the hourly rate of base <br /> pay for the 1991 Engineer Rank. <br /> (d) All payments made pursuant to the City's Retirement Sick-Day Buy-Back <br /> Program for the South Bend Fire Department shall be paid in one lump sum <br /> payment by the City on the next regular payday following the effective date of the <br /> Officers or Sworn Members retirement from the department, or as soon thereafter as <br /> possible. <br /> (e) The above terms shall be subject to the approval by the Board of Public <br /> Safety. <br /> SECTION VIII. SERVICE YEAR. The first service year for a member of the Fire <br /> Department commences upon his or her being sworn in before the Board of Public <br /> Safety as a member of that department. His or her second service year shall begin on <br /> the next succeeding first day of January. Promotion to the rank of Engineer shall be <br /> dependent upon the completion of three (3) full years of service. The Fire Chief <br /> shall forward to the Board of Public Safety the names of those firefighters eligible for <br /> the Engineer rank not later than the date they become eligible. <br /> SECTION IX. PRIVATE AMBULANCE SERVICE PROGRAM. In the event that the <br /> City of South Bend continues to contract with Memorial Hospital for neo-natal <br /> and/or pediatric transport, firefighters who volunteer to participate in the City's <br /> Private Ambulance Service Program shall receive the following compensation: <br /> (a) For calendar year 1991, the sum of Fifty Dollars ($50.00) additional pay for <br /> every shift worked, payable in the next regular paycheck, or as soon thereafter as <br /> possible. The dollar amount shall increase to the sum of Sixty Dollars ($60.00) in <br /> calendar year 1992, and to the sum of Seventy-Five Dollars ($75.00) in calendar year <br /> 1993. <br /> (b) In addition to said firefighter's regular salary and the amount set forth in <br />
