r
Parks, Arts,Recreation and Culture(PARC)Committee
The July 11, 2005 meeting of the Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture (PARC) Committee was
called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Derek D. Dieter at 4:20 p.m. in the Council
Informal Meeting Room.
Persons in attendance included Council Members Dieter, Pfeifer, Puzzello, Kelly, Kuspa, White
Kirsits and Rouse; Citizen Member Martha Lewis, Brad Poulan, Executive Director of the
Department of Community and Economic Development Sharon Kendall, Dennis Andres, Mrs.
Kopola, Bernie Feeney, Tim Hernly, Tedd Schaffer, City Clerk John Voorde and Kathleen
Cekanski-Farrand,Council Attorney.
Council Member Dieter called for a presentation on Bill No. 41-05 which would appropriate
$35,000 from the Morris Performing Arts Center Improvement Fund(Fund# 416).
Dennis Andres,Executive Director of the Morris Performing Arts Center made the presentation.
He noted that the fund was established for the purpose of renovating, remodeling and improving
the Morris. Fund monies are generated by a ticket surcharge. The proposed expenditure is for
service, repair and replacement of boiler components in the mechanical room of the Morris. He
stated that a boiler was purchased five (5) years ago. They noticed water on the floor and
determined that they did not receive all of the parts. Deputy Attorney Jeff Jankowski has been in
contact with the manufacturer.
No one spoke in favor or in opposition to the Bill.
Council Member Kelly made a motion, seconded by Council Member Puzzello that Bill No.
41-05 be recommended favorably to Council.
Under miscellaneous business, Mr. Andres gave an update on the proposed Morris marquee.
The cost is $3/4 million with no city dollars involved. The local and state historic groups are in
support of the concept. He noted that there would be video capability on the main board; that it
would use LED lighting which could last up to twenty(20)years.
There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council Member Dieter
adjourned the meeting at 4:30 p.m.
Respect-IN submitte,, f
/
Council Member Derek D.
