CAHCTR04092 TEST REPORT
A&amed
Pmd,KtE Mmtw Analysis
All instrumentation data was filtered as specified by SAE J211-12, with the exception of the
EuroSID-2re rib deflections. The EuroSID-2re rib deflections were filtered at CFC180 per the
IIHS side impact protocol. Vehicle and ATD calculations were performed per SAE J17273 and
the supplemental equations shown below.
The bullet vehicle, target vehicle, and the instrumented ATD's were equipped with tri-axial
accelerometers. The resultant acceleration (a,) of each tri-axial accelerometer set was calculated
as shown in equation 1.
[a,'
y2 , 1112 [
ar= ax +a +a 11
The velocity of each vehicle accelerometer was calculated as shown in equation 2.
vx = f axdt + v, (0) [2]
0
Delta velocity of each vehicle accelerometer was calculated as shown in equations 3 and 4.
Equations 2 and 3 show the x direction, but the equations also apply to the y and z directions.
Ovx = V. - vx(o) [31
The resultant delta velocity was calculated as shown in equation 4.
Avg = [AVx2 + AVy2 + AV, 21112 [4]
The head injury criteria (HIC) is based upon the probability of linear skull fracture when the head
is subject to direct contact or impact with an object such as the B-pillar, A -pillar, or an interior
surface. The HIC is calculated per SAE J17273, FMVSS2084, and FMVSS 2145 as shown in
equation 5, and is the maximum value obtained from a15 ms time interval of the resultant head
acceleration curve.
t2 25
HIC(15)= (1/(t2—t1) f a,dt] N—t1) [5]
t,
The neck injury index (Nij) is a value that indicates the probability of neck injury based on neck
axial loading and neck flexion/extension moment. The Nij is calculated per SAE J17273, and
FMVSS2084 as shown in equation 6.
Nij = (FZ I FZ,) + (M,CY 1 M") 161
FZ is the axial load and Mo,y is the fore -aft bending moment about the occipital condyle. These
parameters were normalized by the critical values FZ, and MyC, referenced from SAE J17273.
Information contained in this document is confidential and may not be transmitted or reproduced.
in full or in part, for any purpose without the written consent of CAPE
Page 9 of 14
