City of South Bend Central Services Division <br />Fire Service, Inc./Wheeled Coach Ambulance <br />Specification <br />shall be machine crimped, to UL standards, with a high quality crimping tool that <br />produces crimps for a given size wire and terminal that are precisely alike in <br />appearance and performance. Crimping pressure must be controlled by a ratchet <br />device on the hand tool or a corresponding pre -calibration in the crimping jaws of <br />an automated machine. Crimping pressure can neither over -stress nor under stress <br />the terminal -barrel -machined dies. <br />No splices shall be permitted except for connection of "pig -tail" devices. Butt <br />splices are permitted for connection of "pig -tail" devices. The use of IDC <br />(Insulation Displacement Connector) connectors, i.e.: "3M Scotchlok" type <br />fasteners, is not acceptable. <br />The various wiring installations as supplied with this vehicle shall be of the <br />automotive "harness" design. For ease of identification and future replacement <br />these harnesses shall be engineered and manufactured in the following sections. <br />1. Engine compartment harness. <br />2. Driver's control console harness. <br />3. Main module harness. <br />4. Chassis rear lighting harness. <br />This agency is extremely concerned the primary manufacturer has the ability to <br />control, warranty and replace the harnesses. To that end, the primary <br />manufacturer shall not subcontract the construction of these harnesses. <br />WIRING CRITERIA AND CIRCUIT BOARD <br />All wiring devices, switches, outlets, etc., except circuit breakers, shall be rated <br />carry a minimum of one hundred and twenty-five percent (125%) of the <br />maximum ampere load for which the circuit is protected. All wires carrying a load <br />of more than 5 amperes shall be a minimum of 16 AWG. There shall be a master <br />electrical component panel located in the vehicle. It is preferred that the master <br />panel be mounted on or near the bulkhead of the patient compartment.
