BILL NO. 4747=20 <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br />Filed in Clerk's Office <br />P- 23 2020LS_._ . _. <br />DAWN Pl. ju, i,_S <br />CITY CLERK, SOUTH BEND, IN <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARY FOR THE SOUTH BEND CITY CLERK FOR CALENDAR <br />YEAR 2021 <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />The City Clerk serves as the clerk to legislative body pursuant to Indiana Code § 36-4-6-9 and is required <br />to preserve the legislative body's record and proceedings. The City Clerk is also charged with keeping the <br />City Seal, administering official oaths, attending all regular and special meetings of the Common Council, <br />and performing other duties as may be required by the legislative body. <br />Indiana Code § 36-4-11-4 authorizes the City Clerk to appoint the "number of deputies and employees <br />authorized by the city legislative body", which are established by a separate ordinance. The City Clerk <br />currently manages a staff of four (4) employees, which includes overseeing the Ordinance Violations <br />Bureau. <br />The South Bend Common Council is required to fix the annual compensation of all elected city officials <br />pursuant to Indiana Code § 36-4-7-2. <br />Now, therefore, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. The maximum salary for the City Clerk for the 2021 calendar year shall be established as <br />follows: <br />2020 <br />73,764 <br />2021 <br />73,764 <br />Section II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common <br />Council, approval by the Mayor and legal publication.
