This Section includes wood windows of the types and performance grades indicated. <br />1. Rehabilitation of existing wood windows: Windows sash to be removed and reha- <br />bilitated in the Contractors Shop. Board up windows to secure building and make <br />watertight. Wood jamb/head/sill to be retained and rehabilitated where possible <br />and replaced where required and per Window Schedule. If deteriorated beyond <br />repair, replace with like and kind shape, profile and material. Provide paint finish <br />to exterior. Interior wood sash to be left unfinished, to be finished as part of a fu- <br />ture phase. Scrape and remove paint with stripper, sand to sound wood and repair <br />dryrot, and repair with new components only if beyond repair. Owner has a sash <br />window sample for Contractor to review. This will serve as a standard of quality <br />of repair for all sash rehabilitation work. Remove and salvage original glass, re- <br />pair and prime sash and glaze each sash. All plexiglass windows (damaged or not) <br />and broken and/or damaged glass is to be replaced with new double strength <br />glass. Provide new bronze sash chains and refurbish/replace hardware as required <br />for effective and complete operation. Where hardware is damaged, missing or be- <br />yond repair, replace with specified hardware as required for complete operation. <br />Operable Double-Hung windows to be rehabilitated at Single Hung Operable, <br />with a fixed upper sash. Provide metal weather stripping at meeting rail, jamb and <br />sill at lower operable sash per specifications. <br />B. Performance-grade number is the actual design pressure in pounds force per square foot <br />(pascals) used to determine the structural test pressure and water test pressure. <br />D. Standards: Performance requirements for operating force, air infiltration, water penetra- <br />tion, structural performance, and forced-entry resistance for wood windows are those <br />specified in NWWDA I.S. 2, "Industry Standard for Wood Window Units."
