General: Comply with applicable recommendations contained in APA <br />3.9 FASTENING <br /> <br />A. Nailing: <br />1. Use only common wire nails or spikes of the dimension shown in Table <br />2304.9.1, fastening schedule of the Indiana Building Code, except where <br />otherwise specifically noted on the Drawings. <br />2. For conditions not covered in the Nailing Schedule provide penetration <br />into the piece receiving the point of not less than the length of the nail or <br />spike, provided, however, that 16d nails may be used to connect two <br />pieces of 2" (nominal) thickness. <br />3. Nail without splitting wood. <br />4. Pre-bore as required. <br />5. Remove split members and replace with members complying with the <br />specified requirements. <br /> <br />B. Bolting: <br />1. Drill holes 1/16" larger in diameter than the bolts being used. <br />2. Drill straight and true from one side only. <br />3. Do not bear bolt heads on wood, but use washers under all nuts. <br /> <br />C. Screws: <br />1.
