Please let me know if the attached application, design idea, and photos are
what you need. Again, as I mentioned over the phone, it did not seem apparent to me, per the Chapin
Park guidebook, that when we are building a low platform deck that doesn't affect any architectural
aspects of the home, especially in the backyard, that we needed to do this . But so that everything is in
the clear, I hope this can be approved in-house by you, and I look forward to hearing back. Thank you.
John

P.S. For your enjoyment, also attaching a front shot of the home with new landscaping (almost)
complete, including recycled slate which came with our home, on the side path, originally
salvaged from Studebaker Elementary School.
_____________
John Sikorski, PhD
Postdoctoral Teaching Scholar

To help protect your privacy, Microsoft Office prevented automatic download of this picture from the Internet.Mendoza College of Business

On Wed, Jul 22, 2020 at 3:47 PM Adam Toering <atoering@southbendin.gov> wrote:
John,

Good to catch up with you regarding your projects since we last talked. Attached is the enterable PDF Certificate of
Appropriateness application. Fill it out and send it back to me. The ‘Project Description’ entry can be a bit finnicky, so
take care when entering your information. Please attach a site plan indicating where the 20” platform would sit on
your property in relation to the rest of your house. Photographs of the area (and of the previously approved and
completed projects) would be appreciated.

Administrative Approvals still require the $20 application fee. Payment can be made over the phone by calling Business
Licensing Administrator Michelle Adams at 574‐235‐5912.
