South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Annual Organizational Meeting - January 7, 2000 <br />6. 1999 ACCOMPLISHMENTS (CONT.) <br />South Bend Central Development Area <br />The SBCDA had over $ 21 million dollars of <br />private investment. <br />Continued construction on the Morris <br />Performing Arts Center. Work is to be <br />completed early in the year 2000. <br />Secured three tenants in the Leighton Plaza <br />Retail Shops: Quizno's Classic Subs; Esprit <br />Decor, fine furniture on consignment; and <br />soon to open, Laura Lee's Inc. Accessories <br />and Apparel, upscale accessories for women. <br />Celebrated the substantial completion of <br />Leighton Plaza Project: 644 car parking <br />APK garage, 11,500 sq ft. of retail space, 80,000 sq <br />ft. Memorial Leighton Health Plex and 65,000 <br />sq ft. of Class A office space. Total project <br />cost: approximately $36 million. <br />Completed the Historic Restoration of the <br />State Theater facade with the completion of <br />work on the theater's marquee. <br />Began the implementation of the Downtown <br />Strategic Action Plan. Early highlights <br />include: <br />Over 120 participants involved; <br />The establishment of the Steering <br />Committee, the South Bend Downtown <br />Partnership, seven sub - committees and an <br />Advisory Committee. <br />-7- <br />
