COMMUNITY RELATIONS AUGUST 27,2012 <br /> 5:08 P.M. <br /> Committee Members Present: Dr. David Varner, Henry Davis, <br /> Oliver Davis <br /> Other Council Members Present: Tim Scott,Dr. Fred Ferlic, Karen White, <br /> Gavin Ferlic <br /> Others Present: George Lane,Angel Hernandez, Don Inks, <br /> Mark Neal,Mike Schmuhl, <br /> Kathy Cekanski-Farrand, Jitin Cain <br /> Agenda: Traffic Control in Residential Neighborhoods—Div. Chief Jeff Walters <br /> Update—Public Access <br /> In the absence of Valerie Schey, Chairperson of the Committee,Vice-Chair, Henry Davis <br /> conducted the hearing. <br /> The first item a report on traffic control in residential neighborhoods was continued until <br /> the next meeting on September 10, 2012, in light of Valerie's absence. <br /> The second agenda item an update on the progress of the public access channel was <br /> presented by George Lane and Angel Hernandez. Talking the lead, George Lane, a long- <br /> time promoter of the need for a public access cable channel,recounted the efforts to make <br /> the dream a reality. After many years of trying to muster support the South Bend City <br /> Council set aside$65,000 for its share of start-up costs. The City of Mishawaka and the <br /> Country agreed to chip in as well. Former Director of Public Works, Gary Gilot crafted a <br /> production agreement with WNIT public television and according to Angel Hernandez <br /> from the station;the public access programming would begin by the end of September. <br /> Henry Davis thanked those involved.
