Application for Certificate of Appropriateness <br />828 Park Avenue, South Bend, IN 46616 <br />Richard and Lesley Marcantonio <br /> <br />Dear Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County, <br />We would like to install a wood picket fence around our front yard. After 4 years in Chapin Park, we <br />have come to love the fenced front yards on our street and in the neighborhood, and are excited to add <br />to the beauty of our home with a front yard fence. Furthermore, in the summer of 2015, a historic <br />marker for our home—the former home of poet Kenneth Rexroth—was installed. The installation has <br />brought many visitors to the site, which is wonderful for the city and a joy for us lovers of history and <br />literature. Along with the beauty of a front yard fence, we will also appreciate the small deterrent for <br />people who come to the door thinking our home open for visitors as a historic site. Lastly, we have a <br />toddler who loves to be outdoors and we would appreciate his ability to play in the front yard more <br />safely. <br />We will install a severe weather white cedar picket fencing (3.5ftx8ft panels) in the French gothic style <br />around our front yard of 828 Park Avenue. We will install a gate as well across the front walkway to <br />separate the yard from the sidewalk. Our immediate neighbor (830 Park Avenue) has the same fencing <br />so we will match his. We will purchase the fencing from Lowe’s where we receive a veteran discount. <br />The fencing we plan to purchase is Item #156541 – Model #160274 Severe Weather White Cedar Spaced <br />Picket French Gothic Wood Fencing. We will paint the fencing white with exterior white paint also <br />purchased from Lowe’s. Richard Marcantonio (homeowner) will install the fencing.
