STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends denial of new steel door and recommends replacement with new wood door
to resemble original. If retroactive approval is given, Staff recommends painting door to coincide with existing color scheme of
• house.
Prepared by
Adam Toering
Historic Preservation Specialist
Recommendation by
Elicia Feasel
Historic Preservation Administrator
Commission Gordon made a motion to deny COA #2018-0727 as submitted. Seconded by
Commissioner Molnar.
Legal Counsel DeRose clarified that with motions for denial, Commissioners must express
their justifications for voting in the affirmative.
in cases of motion for denial, votes in favor of the motion in fact support the motion to deny the
application.. Roll was called:
Commissioner Canada: I agree to deny due to the failure of the applicant to show up to the
hearing, and that it did not meet the Standards and Guidelines for the area for replacing the door.
Commissioner Hertel: I vote to deny COA #2018-0727 due to the inability to question the owner
regarding the condition of the door that had been replaced, and the possibility of restoration versus
replacement.
Commissioner Molnar: I vote in the affirmative to deny the application due to no one being here
for questioning, and also that it does not fit the Standards and Guidelines of the district.
Commissioner Gordon: I vote to deny. The new door does not meet the Standards and Guidelines
for the area, and we cannot ask the applicant for any alternative closure.
Four in favor, none opposed.
Vote: 4 — 0 Motion to deny COA#2018-0727 is passed.
Application COA #2018-0727 is denied.
4. 528 Eddy COA# 2018-0803A #9089-00 Local Landmark
Representation: Shad Ennis, 1247 Mishawaka Avenue
Angie Dvorak, 216 W North Shore
STAFF REPORT
CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A
CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
Date: August 10, 2018
Application Number: 2018-0803A
• Property Location: 528 S Eddy St
Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: Unknown, 1925-26
Property Owner: South Bend Community School Corporation
7
