-remove hallow -core door from north facing front parlor and replace with historically
appropriate front door with a square window. Install wooden storm door with matching
confirmation. (see attached photo).
-change existing door from the porch to the inner parlor to a window to match the scale
and size of the window immediately to the south of it which is canted toward the front
porch.
-add a window of the same size and proportion as the two that face the porch to the wall
next to the front door. This is the now blank wall facing the front porch.
*The reason for the removal of the door on the porch which faces the street and the
switching of the houses primary entrance to the door 90 degrees to the north of this door is
because on the interior the new confirmation will allow for traffic to be condensed into a
single path between the front parlor and the back of the house. This allows for the middle
parlor on the south side of the house to have more useable space.
South Side:
-remove the door which goes into the dinning room. The wall of the room already has one
window and it is deemed best to allow for some wall space in the dinning room which is
not punctuated with a window. The room has 2 remaining windows.
9 East Side/Back Side:
•
-Build a small addition to the rear of the house at the spot which was the original kitchen
door. This room will measure 10 feet East-West x 13.9 feet North-South. It will have a
kitchen door with a window. The room is designed to enclose the existing exterior
basement stairs and provide covered, safe, dry access to the basement.
The addition will have a window in the east side and a window in the south side. The east
side window will be a wood clad double hung window to match the size and scale of the
original windows.
The horizontal window on the south side of the new addition will be horizontal in format
and higher up on the wall. It is designed to help light the area of the basement stairs.
Install back kitchen door with window with storm door of matching confirmation (see
attached photo).
North Side:
-Remove existing window in the back of the house, where the original kitchen was and
renovated kitchen will be and install a window which allows for the counter top and
kitchen sink on the interior. The current window is too low in the wall to allow for the
insertion of a sink.
2
