DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: Applicant seeks a Certificate of Appropriateness for • <br />improvements on the structure including: <br />1. General Structure Improvements <br />a. Removing plastic siding <br />b. Repairing woodwork and trim. <br />2. First Floor Improvements <br />a. Structure — Southwest Corner <br />i. Replace front porch floor with wood boards (contingent upon funding). <br />ii. Replace existing railing with historically correct railing. An example of the proposed <br />railing can be found at 853 Forest Avenue <br />iii. Remove and replace existing door (south facing). <br />iv. Install wooden storm door on same. <br />v. Remove existing door (west facing) and replace/reconstruct the enclosure into a double <br />hung window matching the existing southwest facing window. <br />vi. Add an additional double hung window on the south facing wall beside the primary <br />entrance door. <br />b. Structure — South Side <br />i. Remove and fill-in south -facing door. <br />c. Structure — East Side (Alley Side) <br />i. Build a small addition (10' x 13'6") to enclose the basement access with <br />concrete/foundation. Color to be matched to existing brick. <br />1. Remove and reinstall current kitchen entrance door on east side. <br />2. Install new wood clad double hung window on east side south of entrance <br />door. <br />3. Install horizontal/awning window above basement access. <br />d. Structure —North Side • <br />i. Remove existing `mudroom' northern window, replace with removed horizontal <br />window presently on eastern wall to facilitate new kitchen sink configuration on <br />northern wall. <br />Second Floor Improvements <br />a. Add two shed dormers to the north and south of the rear of the house. <br />b. Add two new windows to new shed dormers. <br />c. Include a round porthole window at rear of structure in same bedroom. <br />Site / Landscaping Improvements <br />a. Grade and pave in water -permeable ceramic brick of an organic color to create a patio space. <br />b. Grade and pave with same water -permeable ceramic brick a parking pad behind the front house <br />and immediately adjacent to the north of 906 Leland. <br />c. Landscaping <br />d. New sidewalk <br />e. Replace Maple removed with RME #2017-1115. <br />Applicant is intending to use all -wood Marvin Ultimate Double Hung windows for new replacements. Applicant <br />has expressed concern over the thickness of the new replacement window sashes, as they will be existing in near <br />visible proximity to original windows. Applicant is working with Marvin to attempt to modify the new windows to <br />better replicate the existing sash/frame pattern. The design of new construction or alteration would not require the duplication of the <br />original design and construction, but should be compatible with existing structures and the district's defined elements of <br />
