April 11, 2018
• Firehouse #6 COA
pane existing windows. The regular use or `wear and tear' would create further maintenance
issues with the single pane windows relative to the new wood windows. Additionally, the
second floor windows could be used as an emergency egress, further lending to the value of an
easily operable and structurally sound window.
Steel Doors and Glazing
For the large bi-folding door in the former garage door opening (Door 102) and passage doors
101, 103 and 104 we are proposing to install commercial grade thermal steel door systems
manufactured by Arcadia Custom or approved equal. These steel door units are designed to
mimic hot rolled steel doors and windows common from the late 1800's through the 1920's.
Product data and a corner sample from Arcadia Custom are included with our application.
Proiect Overview
The owners of Firehouse #6 are committed to maintaining the historic accuracy and integrity of
this landmark—it is the primary motivation for responding to the city's RFP last year to purchase
the property. Last fall, a new roofing system was installed through a routine maintenance
exclusion permit. Copper gutters, downspouts and flashings were installed to not only meet the
HPC's expectations, but exceed them. On the interior, all wood trim and casework is being
salvaged for potential reuse inside the new dining room, bar and 2"a floor apartment. The hose
tower will be a focal point, as it will act a huge light well directly above the new bar. The interior
walls will be exposed brick. These are just a few examples of the intentions of the project to
• honor the historic and architectural significance of this building while repurposing it to solidify its
future in the Chapin Park Neighborhood.
Should you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me at any time.
Sincerely:
H.
