PROJECT DESCRIPTION is
The residents of this 1927 historic Greek Revival home along North Shore Drive began the
process .of,restor-ing .the .original materials.and.details .to .the .exterior .of the .home in 201.7.and.are
hoping to continue with the process -this year -on -the -south -(or front) -elevation. During -the r-estoration
process in 2017, the contractor removed the existing aluminum -siding -and found some -of the origi-
nal clapboards and pilasters in good condition ontheeast, north and west facades. The scope of the
work for this year includes removing the existing aluminum siding on the front facade, replacing the
existing capitals on the porch with new matching, period -appropriate Greek Erectheum Ionic capitals,
and restoring the pilasters beneath the existing siding. In addition, replacing the k -style -gutters with
copper -or dark -bronze -half --round gutters .andround .downspouts, xnstori_ng .the :cornice where needed
.and -replacing -the -roof wit h -a. synthetic slate shingle -by Eco Star -as well -as -replacing -the -roof -and -gutters
at the -garage -is -planned.
Historic photos provide evidence that the original house had a one-story porch that extended
the entire width of the home. The initial intent of the homeowners was to re-create this single -story
porch, but it was determined that its construction would jeopardize significant trees on the property
in the.process. In lieu of extending the porch, the homeowners desire to carry the horizontal cornice
-of -the lower _porch -across the facade -in -reference to the -original -design, -with-atrellis to -align with the
,existing -entablature. This detailing has -strong historical -roots nationwide.
