Proposal for Replacing Garage Door at 336 W Navarre St, South Bend, IN 46616
Application for Certificate of Appropriateness to the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County
Contractor. Overhead Door Company of South Bend/Mishawaka
Manufacturer. Overhead Door
Homeowner. Victor & Nancy Myers
The Existing Garage Doors
Currently there are two heavy wooden doors, which open by sliding them on overhead rails, one inside, the other
outside. The openings are of different widths, with the right side door too narrow for even a smaller car to practically
enter (4 -inches total clearance). Dimensions are provided in the schematic shown on page 2.
The New Garage Door
Our proposal provides for a single double overhead door of standard dimensions, 16'w x T H. Removal of the center
frame will allow easy access for two passenger cars.
The new garage door selected duplicates the stylistic theme of the vertical board pattern.
Our plan includes adding an additional header or LVL inside, above the door, to provide adequate support following
removal of the center frame or post.
A photo of the new garage door style is shown below with several differences: We propose the color Almond,
matching the trim color on house and garage; there would be three solid rows of panels and a fourth row of windows
of the same design (Stockbridge 2 3-1-ite); and finally four panels per row instead of eight (See style V10).
Overhead Model 192, Width 16' x 7' Height, Style V10, Almond Color, Windows Stockbridge 2 3 -Lite, Insulated glass
Ribbed Short Panel Selected as Most Consistent with Existing Doors
